Our Mission
Our mission is to facilitate the learning and practice of music, and to foster the development of musical talent within refugee communities in the Netherlands. By providing music lessons and talent development opportunities, we aim to empower individuals, encourage self-expression, and promote social interaction and integration.
At Sound for society, we believe that music can serve as a powerful tool for empowerment, self-expression, and social integration. By offering music lessons and talent development opportunities, we aim to create a supportive and nurturing environment where individuals can explore their musical potential and connect with one another through the universal language of music.
Our Values
Interact
It is important that we keep social and creative interaction at the centre of our program. Asylum seekers arrive in the Netherlands with almost no social network other than the one they manage to form in the centres upon arrival. This is not helped by the relocations and a relatively high turnover in the centres. We can help by providing a strong social network, regular classes and activities, and teaching and nurturing a new way of interacting with each other through music and group projects.
Develop
With our extensive program and network of musical professionals, we can offer the participants a challenging course that will develop their musical and business skills, as well as promote social interaction.
As well as instrument and music theory classes, the students will be encouraged to develop the necessary skills to integrate the sector of the music industry that they are interested in. This can be achieved by the creation of musical projects, internships in specific organisations in the music industry (record labels, promoters, artist management)
Integrate
Our aim is to provide the participants with a solid foundation to integrate society, as well as a network of musicians and music professionals that can help them develop their careers. Throughout the course, the participants will evolve alongside peers with similar interests and will meet a large number of music professionals. With our mentorship program, we will be able to guide the participants and help them determine what they would like to do within the music industry and how to build a career. It is important to note that while the initial work in establishing this charity will focus on the program and activities in the centres, we will also ensure that we involve passed participants in course and mentorship programs, and we will provide a support network and additional courses for all participants after their application has been granted.
